Spring Cleaning — Mental Health Edition

shekinahjoylee

Despite the current cold snap, we know spring is near and that makes it the perfect time for some spring cleaning—not just for our homes, but for our mental health, too.

Here’s a list of things to focus on this month to clear mental, physical, and spiritual space for the next season!

1. Self-Care Assessment

The first quarter of the year is almost behind us. But before rushing ahead, it’s worth checking in—how are we feeling? Taking a moment to assess your emotional, physical, and mental well-being is key.

2. Re-Evaluate Goals

Growth requires consistent evaluation. Are the goals set at the start of the year still aligned with where things are headed? Is there anything that needs to be edited, removed, or added? Have any new passions emerged? Check on your goals and edit them accordingly.

3. Plan a Self-Care Day

What does the perfect self-care day look like? Whether it’s a spa day, a solo coffee date, a hike, at-home pampering, or a cozy movie marathon with wine, you deserve it. Plan it now and set a date. No excuses!

4. Refresh the Routine

Some activities naturally take a backseat in winter (like any activity that takes place outside), but as the weather warms up, new habits may feel more inviting. This could mean waking up earlier, adding outdoor walks, refreshing a skincare or hair routine, or switching up workouts. Small changes can create a big impact, especially when it’s more comfortable for you to commit to the change.

5. Get Organized & Spring Clean

What’s cluttering the space and the mind? Time to sort through closets, homes, and digital files. Give some things away, if you don’t need it at all, throw it away, reorganize your space. A clean physical space enhances your mental clarity.

6. Digital Detox

Taking a break from screens. Whether it's 24 hours, 3 days, or a full week, create boundaries with social media and allow yourself to be more present while you go through the process of Spring Cleaning for your mental health.

7. Fast, Pray & Connect with God

A new season isn’t just physical, it’s spiritual. Just as plants begin to bloom, so will the fruits of our labor. How can we better align with God in this season? Whether through fasting, deeper prayer, or intentional quiet time with Him, let’s embrace this time to reflect on his goodness and thank Him for the new things to come. And remember: He makes all things new.

8. Read a Book on a New Subject

Stepping outside of the usual book genre can be refreshing! If self-help is the go-to, maybe it’s time for fiction. If romance is your comfort zone, maybe try something motivational. Spring is the perfect time to explore new interests and expand perspectives.

9. Get Moving

Dance, hike, swim, or try a new fitness class. Whatever makes you feel good. Movement is one of the best ways to release stress and boost energy.

10. Schedule Something to Look Forward To

Plan the trip, the event, or the staycation! Having something to anticipate can be a great tool for motivation for the season ahead.

Of course, all of these are just suggestions, but the goal as we transition into this new season is to continue focusing on the goals set for 2025, create opportunities to expand on them, and ensure we’re showing up as our best selves regardless of the results.

Spring reminds us of the simple beauties of life and often helps shake off that winter slump. As we embrace everything March and spring have to offer, let’s remember the value of spring cleaning for mental health!

If there’s something special you’re doing to refresh your mental health this season, I’d love to hear about it! Send me a message on social media, or drop a comment on the page and hashtag #PurposedJoySpringCleaning.

Happy Spring Cleaning!
